Alabama Supreme Court Justice Bill Lewis has been recommended for a federal judgeship in the Middle District of Alabama.

The recommendation came from Alabama’s U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt. President Trump says he plans to nominate Lewis, who will have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Bill Lewis was appointed to the Alabama Supreme Court by Gov. Kay Ivey in May. He replaced Justice Jay Mitchell, who resigned to run for Alabama Attorney General.

Prior to his appointment, Justice Lewis served as a Judge on the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals and was the Presiding Circuit Judge on the 19th Judicial Circuit. Before his judicial service began, he was in private practice in Wetumpka, where he grew up. He attended the University of the South for his undergraduate degree and Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham for his J.D.

Senators Tuberville and Britt also recommended two others for federal judgeships.

Harold Mooty, a Montgomery native, was recommended for Alabama’s Northern District. Edmund LaCour was also recommended to serve the Northern District.
