CAMPAIGN 2026: U.S. Navy Reserve Capt. Morgan Murphy is entering the race for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat.

Murphy is a Republican who has worked in the Trump White House and is a former aid to U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, who he hopes to replace.

“In 2020, I served as a close advisor and press secretary to Defense Secretary Christopher Miller and Deputy Secretary of Defense Kash Patel,” Murphy said on his campaign website. “While many others abandoned President Trump, we stuck with the boss through to his last day, 20 January 2021.

“In 2025, I was proud to join President Trump’s second term as the Senior Public Diplomacy Advisor to the Special Presidential Envoy for Ukraine, Lt. Gen. (ret.) Keith Kellogg. As a member of President Trump’s team to end the war, I deeply admire my president’s heartfelt desire to stop the deadliest war in Europe since World War II.”

Murphy was once “Southern Living” magazine’s travel editor, food critic and spokesman, according to his website.

Murphy lives in Birmingham and joins a crowded Republican field, which includes Attorney General Steve Marshall, First District Congressman Barry Moore, former U.S. Marine Jared Hudson and businessman Rodney Walker.

The seat will be open because Senator Tuberville is running for governor.

The primaries are May 19, 2026.
