ONLY ON 8: Day 6 of the Great Alabama 650

We are six days into the country’s longest paddle race and we are already close to having a winner.

Alabama natives Bobby Johnson and Matt Taylor have made their way into the Mobile Bay with the finish line in sight. They are leading the two-person tandem team category and are currently the overall leaders.

Arizona native Christopher Thomas is still currently leading the pack in the male solo category, but Missouri native Jake VanLue is not far behind.

In the female solo category, Florida native Salli O’Donnell is still in first place.

The 650-mile journey started Saturday at Weiss Lake in Northeast Alabama. Paddlers have until Tuesday, October 14 to complete the race.

Spectators can follow virtually at AL650.com, where a live map will report up-to-the minute updates on the racer’s progress.

In addition, this year’s event features an app where you can follow along using your mobile device.

To download the app, search Endurance HQ in the Apple and Google Play stores. The username for the app is “alabama650@trailrunnerhq.com” and the password is “Alabama650!” The password is case-sensitive.

Action 8 News will have a recap each day on TV and online.
