Huge Faulkner comeback falls short against Georgetown College
The Faulkner Eagles found themselves in a 27-0 hole against #19 Georgetown College, but they nearly pulled off a remarkable comeback before falling 37-35.
After scoring two touchdowns, the Eagles recovered a kickoff fumble to maintain momentum. Quarterback Deuce Marshall then connected with a leaping Darian Riggs for a 29-yard touchdown, cutting Georgetown’s lead to just six points.
Georgetown responded with a touchdown, but Faulkner continued fighting. Marshall handed off to Robin Harris, who powered his way into the end zone for a touchdown.
Down by nine in the fourth quarter, the Eagles attempted a 46-yard field goal that was blocked. But Faulkner wasn’t finished. The Eagles scored a last-second touchdown to pull within two points at 37-35.
However, the subsequent onside kick attempt failed, sealing Georgetown’s victory and ending first-year head coach Dayne Brown’s dramatic comeback effort.
