Sheriff Bringing Project Lifesaver Program to Perry Co.

PCLIFESAVER2333From the West Alabama Newsroom–   Perry County Sheriff Billy Jones is working to implement a new program in the county that he says will save lives.

Jones says Project Lifesaver is a search and rescue program specifically designed for people at risk of wandering off. He says people enrolled in the program are given a transmitter to wear around their wrist or ankle. He says the transmitter sends out a signal that can be used to track the individual down — if they’re lost.

“Its really all about bringing some comfort to some of the families that have dementia patients in their family,” said Jones. “And I know that they are going through a lot taking care of them and even if they tend to wander off we will be able to assist them in a more professional manner.”

Jones says program should be up and running by the first of the year.
