Storm shelter now open in Macon County community
Residents in one Macon County community now have a place to go should they need to seek shelter from severe weather.
A ribbon cutting ceremony took place Thursday for the new storm shelter at the Little Texas Volunteer Fire Department.
Officials say the shelter will serve as a critical safe space for residents during severe weather events and provide much-needed protection in an area often impacted by dangerous storms.
The project was made possible in part through a $25,000 contribution from the East Alabama Community Foundation’s Lee County Disaster Relief Fund. The fund’s support helped the fire department secure remaining resources needed to complete the construction of the facility.
The storm shelter is located at 3974 County Road 69 in Tuskegee.
