City of Montgomery opens new pickleball courts
The City of Montgomery has cut the ribbon to new pickleball courts that are free to use.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department has opened 12 acrylic courts at Dean Fain Park, which is at 8700 Minnie Brown Road, just off Eastchase Parkway.
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed says the new courts are part of the city’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and expanding recreational opportunities, and pickleball is a perfect option.
“We want people to know that it’s not as intense as something like tennis, they can work on it, they can learn how to play it and it’s fun for the whole family. This is a sport that allows me to get outside,” Reed said.
“I don’t care how old you are, don’t care how young you are. Everybody can participate in pickleball,” player Jewell Pitts said.
If you’ve never played pickleball, the Bell Road YMCA is offering pickleball courses for beginners.
