YMCA of Greater Montgomery helps to provide Thanksgiving meals

The YMCA of Greater Montgomery is making sure local families aren’t going hungry at Thanksgiving.

The Brown Bag Bus travelled throughout the city, with teams passing out nearly 350 meal kits and turkeys to underserved families, children and seniors in the area.

The Brown Bag Bus initiative started in 2017 and has served thousands of people.

The program supplements nearly 500,000 meals served annually.

“Oh man, it’s share a little love,” YMCA of Greater Montgomery President and CEO A.J. Hernandez told Action 8 News. “I think we want to be able to to let people know that, ‘Hey, they’re seen, right?’ We appreciate them and that even if they may not be able to get to a YMCA, that we’re taking a “Y” to them right? A “Y” without walls and so that’s the concept we’re trying to carry home and just tell people, ‘Hey, we appreciate you and we’re here for you Right now.'”
