Cleanup begins at site of demolished Montgomery hotel

The City of Montgomery has started cleaning up debris from the former Country Inn & Suites Hotel on Carmichael Road that leaders say was an eyesore and safety hazard.

As Action 8 News has reported, the hotel was already vacant when a large fire burned much of the three-story building last year.

The hotel was later demolished, but the debris remained until now. It’s expected to take about 30 days to remove.

City leaders hope this cleanup will improve the area and make it safer. They say the work was delayed for legal reasons and weather delays.

The site is privately owned, but city leaders hope it will provide economic opportunities in the future.

“The goal is for future development, and so in many cases, this is the beginning, not the end,” Marcus Dean, the director of city inspections, told Action 8 News. “We always look at future development for our economic partners and for our external partners to come in and determine how sites such as this can be purposed for future use. Probably, it’s going to stay idle until, as you can imagine, just as we took time to plan this process, it takes even longer in some cases to plan what are the next options for development. and I’m sure there will be more conversations held between potential developers.”
