Habitat for Humanity kicks off Blitz Build Day for two area families

Just in time for Christmas, two area families are seeing their homes come off the ground.

The Montgomery Habitat for Humanity kicked off its Blitz Build Monday by raising the first wall of one of the homes.

Contractors and community partners signed that wall marking the start of construction.

The build is happening in an area that has been shared between Districts 2 and 3, represented by Montgomery city council members Julie Beard and Marche Johnson.

“Honestly, it’s mind-boggling how people are coming together, dropping their titles and just coming together as one and saying, this is an issue that we can do something about affordable housing, and it’s been phenomenal,” said Habitat for Humanity President Susan Johnson.

Habitat for Humanity officials says Blitz Build Day is all about moving faster to help address the city’s affordable housing shortage.
