The Auburn Tigers played the Memphis Tigers in this year’s Birmingham Bowl. Fans across the state were excited to see their team make it to a bowl game, considering the season record was 6-6. Even though Legion Field is quite a drive for fans in South Alabama, there was no way they were going to miss their Tigers play.

Winztell’s restaurant in Greenville was full of Auburn fans coming by to have lunch with friends and watch the Birmingham Bowl. When the game against the Memphis Tigers was tied at the end of the first half, fans were not happy.
“Well I hadn’t really thought much about it, I don’t think the game’s going alright,” said fan Jeremy Huckaby at the half. “I think we need to pick up on defense a little bit more, and actually score some more points.”
“Well, I thought they started out kinda slow but got it going in the second half  a little better,” says fan Mason Gaston. “And so, they ended up pretty good after a slow start.”
Gaston and his sons stopped by to eat and enjoy the game together. All three had a great time when the Auburn Tigers came back after the half and beat the Memphis Tigers 31-10. Like most fans, the Gastons are happy with the loss, but wish the Auburn Tigers had been in a better bowl game.
“As Auburn fans, we don’t have good memories of Legion field, so ah, we expect to be better than that next year,” Mason says.
His son Davis adds, “Gus Malzahn better get it around next year so we can be in the playoff instead of Birmingham.”
Huckaby says, “I think it’s definitely good to be in a bowl, but like I say I would like to have one a lot higher than that. I’ll settle for this one for this year.”
These Auburn fans were happy to end the year on a high note, but are looking forward to a much more successful 2016 season.
