Rain Friday night, colder this weekend, snow unlikely early Sunday

It was a frigid Friday morning with low temperatures in the low 20s. However, temperatures warmed by about 40° during the day, thanks to winds becoming southerly and abundant sunshine. However, rain returns Friday night as our next cold front pushes through our area. Rain amounts range from less than a tenth of an inch up to around one quarter of an inch. Temperatures remain warmer Friday night, with lows in the 40s.

Clouds linger Saturday, with a partly to mostly cloudy sky during the day. Much of Saturday looks mainly dry, with high temperatures in the 50s. Another round of rain may work across far southeast Alabama Saturday evening through early Sunday. Eventually, temperatures may fall to near or below freezing early Sunday across the southeast. That may result in a rain/snow mix, or just snow for a while.

However, models on Friday trended further away from the idea of snow accumulations across Alabama early Sunday. Little if any travel impacts occur early Sunday, and with sunshine and well-above freezing temperatures Sunday, anything frozen melts and dries up quickly. Roads probably remain mainly ice free as temperatures fall into the low 20s late Sunday night.

Next week begins cold with a partly to mostly sunny sky Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures only warm into the low 50s each day, with lows in the 20s each night. Clouds increase Wednesday, then rain appears more likely Thursday. Friday now looks mainly dry, and maybe slightly cooler. We may have another chance for rain Sunday into early the following week.
