Costumes and cold water mark annual Lake Martin Polar Plunge

LAKE MARTIN, Ala. (WAKA) — Dozens of participants plunged into the chilly waters of Lake Martin at Kowaliga on Saturday to raise money for a local nonprofit during an annual winter tradition.

The Lake Martin Young Professionals Polar Plunge drew a lively crowd of swimmers and spectators, many dressed in creative costumes, as they raced into the lake for a good cause. The event featured activities such as the Dash for Cash and a costume contest, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Proceeds from the event benefited the Lake Martin Resource Association, which works to protect and promote the lake and its surrounding communities.

The Polar Plunge has become a highly anticipated event each January, bringing the community together while supporting environmental and recreational efforts at Lake Martin.
