Distinguished Young Women contestants and host moms participate in special luncheon
We are 24 hours away from the start of this year’s Distinguished Young Women of Alabama showcase.
All 42 contestants took a break from rehearsals Thursday to have lunch at the Cattlemen’s Association in Downtown Montgomery.
Each participant is provided housing by a house family during their participation in the competition.
Today’s lunch served as an opportunity to thank their host moms and to learn about the cattle industry in the state.
Reigning Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama, Shayla Holloway, spoke to the ladies about the experience and the positive sisterhood she gained through the program.
Coming here for the week in Montgomery, we are not allowed to have our phones,” said Holloway. “They do that so we can’t have any outside factors stressing us out while we were here for the week, but genuinely you don’t miss it at all you have an opportunity to face to connect face-to-face with all these different incredible educated and talented young women.”
The preliminaries will take place Friday, January 23 and during the day on Saturday, January 24. The finals will be held Saturday night.
