Pike Road planning commission approves new comprehensive plan
The Town of Pike Road is one step closer to having a new comprehensive plan.
Members of the Pike Road Planning Commission held a special called meeting and public hearing Monday to consider the updated plan.
The comprehensive plan is designed to serve as a long-term planning resource based on vision for the town.
Mayor Gordon Stone tells Action 8 News that this is the fourth time the town has updated its comprehensive plan in its 28th year history.
The town started holding public meetings in 2024 to hear input from residents about what they would like to see in the updated plan.
Town leaders say the plan is necessary as the town continues to grow, but some residents feel that the town is growing too fast.
“I would love to see Pike Road continue to grow at a slow rate that it can keep up with the infrastructure,” said Pike Road resident Arla Chandler. “It can keep crime at a reasonable pace. It can keep safety in check. It can keep education a priority and continue to build upon economic development and healthcare resources that, to me will be a great community.”
“We understand that people want to have greater value, and we’re doing that,” said Mayor Gordon Stone. “We also understand that we owe it to our future generations to continue to make sure there’s opportunity here.”
The planning commission unanimously voted to approve the new sector map and comprehensive plan.
It will now go before the town council before it is officially approved.
