Selma Residents Can Get Free Glaucoma Screenings on Thursday

SELMA, Ala. (WAKA) — Residents can receive free glaucoma screenings Thursday (January 29) as part of an effort to raise awareness about the eye disease and detect other potential health problems.

The screenings will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at Primary Eye Care in Selma (2401 Medical Center Parkway) through a partnership with the nonprofit organization Visually Impaired People and local doctors. January is Glaucoma Awareness Month.

William Bowman, chief executive officer of Visually Impaired People, said the exams can also help identify signs of other medical conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure and some forms of cancer.

Transportation is available at no cost for those who need assistance getting to the appointment, Bowman said.

For more information or to schedule transportation, residents can contact Bowman at 334-354-4015 or Primary Eye Care at 334-874-7024.
