First business opens at new Merry Corners shopping center in Pike Road
The first of several businesses has now opened in the new Merry Corners shopping center in Pike Road.
AKay’s Coffee Shop is the first business to open in the strip center at the corner of Vaughn and Pike roads. Recently, a Baptist Health facility and a McDonald’s opened in front of the shopping center.

Co-owners Ryan O’Meara and Marcus Landrum say they saw the area coming up in 2024, so they called the developers and told them of their desire to be part of the shopping center, even though they hadn’t owned a business before.
The coffee shop has some unique features, such as a space for toys for children and a kitchen table setting for Bible studies and other small meetings.
“We want them to step into a place that feels different, where there is a presence of God or the community, just a sense of peace,” Landrum said.
Everything that was served today was from a farm in Guatemala. An employee is from Guatemala and is now living in Pike Road. Her family’s farm is where all the coffee products come from.
