One dead after head-on collision in Russell County

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash occurred on U.S. 80, approximately 14 miles west of Phenix City, in Russell County, just after 4 p.m. on Saturday.

70-year-old Marie Thompson was fatally injured when her car collided head-on with an SUV driven by a 40-year-old man from Prattville. Thompson was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional – Midtown in Columbus, Georgia.

She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The man from Prattville was also taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional – Midtown for medical treatment.

There is no further information at this time as ALEA continues to investigate the crash.
