Millionth tree planted as part of nationwide project
The millionth tree for a nationwide project was planted here as part of the Fields and Forests project.
The Alabama Forestry Commission partnered with the American Forest Foundation to make this possible.
The trees planted are Loblolly Pines which were planted on Portia Fulford’s property in Lowndes County.
Fields and Forests is a carbon project designed for small acreage landowners to transition their underused row crops and pastureland into thriving working forests. This is the first step in helping the project expand to more landowners across the southeastern United States.
The Fields and Forests project currently has 19,000 acres of trees planted across the county.
