Valiant Cross Academy fundraiser features football star
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – A beloved former NFL and University of Alabama defensive back has made a special appearance at Valiant Cross Academy’s Breakfast with the Scholars fundraiser in downtown Montgomery.
This morning’s sold-out breakfast brought hundreds of people to the RSA Activity Center to hear Jeremiah Castille speak.
Castille, known for his All-American performance at Alabama, played on the last team to be coached by the legendary Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
“There are four things I learned from Coach Bryant I still live by today. That’s invest, influence, impact and inspire the next generation. So hopefully, being here in Montgomery this morning, we can encourage people to do those four things starting with investment,” Castille said.
The fundraiser supports Valiant Cross Academy’s scholarship fund, which makes it possible for many of the students to attend the school.
“I just want to thank everybody coming out year after year and supporting this wonderful program and supporting our students. Our students notice when the community comes out like this and helps them and let them just see they really are behind them. It means so much, not only to myself but to our founders Anthony and Fred Brock, so thank you, thank you, thank you, Montgomery,” Kimberly Baker, Valiant Cross Academy’s director of development and marketing, said.
An added surprise — a private donor said that he would give the school $3 for every $1 that was raised during the breakfast this morning, up to $100,000.
