Chisholm Elementary School opens new adaptive playground
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery Public Schools has unveiled a new adaptive playground at Chisholm Elementary School.
The playground was made possible through a $20,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. The grant is designed to bring physical activity and inclusivity to all students.
The new equipment ensures that students of all physical abilities have a safe, engaging space to play and socialize.
The grant program has been in place since 2012. Since then, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama has donated $3 million to schools all over the state.
“Because of your support, Blue Cross Blue Shield, regardless of ability, every child will have the chance to actively participate, build confidence and experience success in physical education,” Chisholm Elementary School principal Anteidra Martin told the crowd gathered for yesterday’s opening.
“We do business in all 67 counties, and we are proud to have customers in all 67 counties and we feel like that is so important that we need to be investing in our children and doing everything we can to make sure that in Alabama, we are raising healthy and happy children,” Heidi Ramey of the Blue Cross Caring Foundation said.
In recent years, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama added an adaptive component to its grant program to allow schools to purchase adaptive equipment that allows for accessibility.
This past year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama had more than 90 applications for the grant. It was able to fund projects at 22 schools statewide.
Schools which are interested in the grant can apply from now through July 24.
