The Montgomery Internet Exchange (MIX) is a partnership between the city, state and Maxwell/Gunter Air Force Base. There is hope the new program will spark economic development statewide.
Even though the MIX is one of only four programs like it in the Southeast, that did not stop Camellia Communications from jumping on board. Camellia Communications is one of the first three companies to join the exchange.
The MIX is designed to promote faster Internet speeds by bypassing connections to larger hub cities and storing content right in Montgomery. President of Camellia Communications Evelyn Causey said her company joined the cause so quickly because she believes in doing the best by her customers.
“We constantly work to try to improve services for our rural customers because it is a challenge sometimes to get them connected to the right place at the right time,” Causey said. “So this offers us an opportunity to be in the same facility as other providers, other carriers as well as content providers.”
Causey also said that after the services are up and running, the only difference customers should notice is the speed of their Internet access. For more information on how the Montgomery Internet Exchange could affect consumers, click here.
