Free summer camp at Trenholm State aims to keep middle schoolers learning through hands-on activities
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — Middle school students in Montgomery can spend part of their summer experimenting, creating and even cooking at a free STEAM camp hosted by H. Councill Trenholm State Community College.
The college is once again offering its annual STEAM Camp for seventh- and eighth-grade students, giving campers the chance to dive into hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
Organizers say the camp is designed to keep students engaged academically during the summer while making learning interactive and fun.
Action 8’s Estee Morrison spoke with Trenholm State’s chair of general education Ronica Thomas about it in the interview above.
“This camp gives students the opportunity to explore new skills and experiences in a supportive environment,” said Thomas.
Campers will participate in a variety of activities throughout the week, including a lesson with the college’s culinary instructor, where students can step into the kitchen and learn cooking techniques firsthand.
The free camp will run June 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for participants.
