Bicyclist killed in Lee County crash

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A bicyclist has been killed in a crash in Lee County.

Alabama State Troopers say the bicyclist was 30-year-old Samuel Rybar, who was from the European nation of Slovakia.

State troopers say at about 4:30AM Monday, July 27, he was riding his bicycle, which was hit from behind by a van driven by 36-year-old Jay Sexton of Opelika. They say Rybar was thrown from his bicycle and died at the scene.

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 280, approximately five miles east of Opelika.
