Salvation Army remembers 9/11 attacks with luncheon for local first responders
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Salvation Army of Montgomery commemorated 9/11 by serving a free lunch to local first responders.
The event was an opportunity for The Salvation Army to recognize local law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS personnel for the hard work that they do every day to help the community.
More than 100 meals were prepared, and first responders were invited to stop by the Salvation Army headquarters on Carter Hill Road during the lunch hour to pick up complimentary to-go meals, allowing the men and women to take lunch with them so they could continue their shifts or bring meals back to their fellow first responders at their stations around the Capital City.
“We are serving others in this way by providing this lunch for them and we are just stopping to say, you are indeed appreciated,” Thomas Johnson, the Montgomery commanding officer of the Salvation Army told Action 8 News. “Some of these folks are going out every day and they are putting their lives on the line, and we’re going to say thank you through a meal.”
