Monday’s storm leaves behind damage throughout Pike County. Pike County EMA officials and a survey team from the National Weather Service in Birmingham were out accessing that damage most of the day Tuesday.

Residents say around 6pm sounds of a train could be heard during that storm. Several sheds were damaged at Birdsong Peanuts, a local peanut buying point for farmers in Goshen. Right now, surveyors say they believe the damage is due to straight line winds up to 70 to 80 miles per hour.

“We’re going to obviously access as much of the information as possible across Pike County. We want to make sure that we get the correct assessment to the damage here,” says John De Block of the National Weather Service from Birmingham.

This week is severe weather awareness week in Alabama. Surveyors say this event serves as another reminder to always be prepared for severe weather this season.
