Carter Joins AUM 1,000 Point Club in Women’s Hoops Defeat

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com)—- Senior Jatoria Carter became the 15th member of the Auburn Montgomery 1,000 Point Club with a game-high 31 points, but the Warhawks fell to Brewton-Parker 79-76 in overtime Thursday at the AUM Gymnasium.

NOTES
• With the loss, the Warhawks had their five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 21-8 on the year. AUM also slipped to 12-5 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

• Brewton-Parker improved to 6-20 overall and 2-15 in league games.

• The loss dropped AUM to 35-9 in the all-time series against the Lady Barons.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Needing 27 points to join the prestigious club, Carter finished with 31 points, seven rebounds, six assists and a steal.

• Kaylan Withrow scored 15 points, hitting five 3-pointers in the contest.

• Reggotta Craig recorded 12 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

• Kyla Rooks added 10 points and eight boards, while adding five assists and three steals.

• Lea Sanders (22), Latoya King (20) and Brianna Boggan (14) scored in double figures for the Lady Barons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first quarter featured three ties, including an 11-11 stalemate at the 1:11 mark. Carter hit a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter, giving AUM a 13-11 advantage after one quarter.
• With 4:51 remaining in the second quarter, the two sides remained tied at 22-22, but AUM closed the half with a 10-3 run and took a 32-25 lead to the locker room.

• AUM opened the third quarter with a 7-1 spurt and took a game-high 13-point lead, 39-26, following a layup by Lyndsey Macon with 8:15 left in the period. However, the Lady Barons took all the momentum by erupting for a 27-6 run during the next six minutes and took a 53-45 lead with 2:33 remaining on a 3-pointer by Boggan. The Warhawks trailed 59-52 after three quarters and were outscored 34-20 in the third.

• AUM chipped away during the fourth quarter, before tying the score at 63-63 on a Carter free throw with 1:22 remaining. The Montgomery native etched her name in the school record by hitting two more from the charity stripe with five seconds remaining to force overtime.

• The Warhawks scored the first four points of the overtime period, but BPC again refused to go away and tied the game at 73-73 with 45 seconds remaining.

• Down the stretch, the Lady Barons hit all six of their shots from the free throw line, while a Withrow 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds proved to be AUM’s only bucket during the stretch.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Warhawks shot 39.4 percent from the floor for the game, hitting 28-of-71 shots, including just 5-of-21 from distance. AUM finished 15-of-18 from the charity stripe.
• The Lady Barons finished 27-of-66 from the field, including 10-of-23 from behind the arc. Brewton-Parker missed just four of 19 attempts from the free throw line.

• AUM won the turnover battled, forcing 17 and committing 15. However, the Lady Barons held a 17-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

• The Warhawks pulled down 14 offensive rebounds, but turned them into only nine second-chance points. AUM outrebounded BPC 47-39 for the game.

UP NEXT

• The Warhawks will close out their regular season with a 2 p.m. contest against Coastal Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 27. The game will make the final home contest for three AUM seniors – Carter, Craig and Marren Schwartz.
