Wounded Warrior Receives Medals After stolen from Home

Lt. Colonel Greg Harbin is a wounded warrior with many medals for his bravery in defending our country. His house in Bessemer was broken into about 5 months ago. And those medals disappeared.

Lt. Col. Greg Harbin has seen it all.
He’s been deployed 8 times from Saudi Arabia to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Though he is very proud of his service, it has come at a cost.

“I still have the shrapnel in my forehead and it does hurt. I’ve dealt with a lot of pain, but today there is no pain,” said Harbin.

It all started when a neighbor read about Harbin’s stolen medals in an article Sixteen medals of bravery and honor– Gone.
The neighbor decided to help him get them back.

After 5 months and finally getting the go ahead from the pentagon, Maxwell Air Force base presented Harbin with his medals.

“I am the happiest man in the planet right now it feels like,” said Harbin.

“He had a number of these medals and they were never presented to him in the first place. So this was an opportunity, really the first opportunity, for a number of these medals to be presented publicly and in the presence of fellow airmen,” said Lt. Col. David Huxsoll public affairs at Maxwell AFB.

For family in attendance, it was an emotional sight.

“It makes you just want to grab your napkins or something and start crying. You can’t tell how proud you are of your son or your kids. They’re your children and I’m proud of all mine,” said Gene Harbin, Greg’s father.
