AUM’s DeRamus tabbed SSAC’s Freshman of the Year
MONTGOMERY, Ala (aumathletics.com) —- Freshman guard Desmond DeRamus was named as the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Freshman of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday night. Also receiving honors were juniors Romoane Eager and Reagan Eubanks, who were named as Second-Team All-Conference members. Spencer Jones was named the AUM Champions of Character recipient, while Jones and Jake Carnley were selected to the All-Academic team.
A native of Montgomery, Ala., DeRamus earned the SSAC Freshman of the Year award as well as being named a member of the All-Freshman Team. DeRamus averaged 10.4 points per contest on the year with 5.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. He also ranks sixth in the nation in total assists (164), seventh in assists per game (5.8), 41st in total steals (45) and 47th in steals per game (1.6).
Against Coastal Georgia on Feb. 27, DeRamus averaged his first career triple-double on 13 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds. For his efforts he was named the Men’s Basketball Conference Player of the Week.
Both newcomers and transfers from Faulkner State Community College (Ala.), Eager and Eubanks have been named Second-Team All-Conference.
Eager, a native of Mobile, Ala., averaged 11.3 points per game during the regular season, while adding 6.1 rebounds a contest. He recorded his first-career double-double on Feb. 6 in a 81-70 win against Dalton State (Ga.), where he scored 23 points and added 10 rebounds.
Originally from Spanish Fort, Ala., Eubanks finished the year as the Warhawks’ leading scorer. He averaged 13.9 points per game, while ranking No. 33 in the nation in 3-pointers made (68). Eubanks also ranked 33rd in 3-point field goals made per game (2.4) and 38th in free throw percentage (0.78).
He recorded a season-high 31 points in a 106-94 victory over Bethel (Tenn.) on Jan. 2. In the same game, he knocked down a season-high six 3-pointers.
The Warhawks return to action Thursday, March 3 when they face Dalton State in the SSAC Tournament. Play is set to begin at 6:15 and will be held at the Multiplex at the Cramton Bowl.
