Golden Tigers host K State Thorobreds @ Paterson Field
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — The Tuskegee University baseball team returns home for the first time since early February, opening conference play at Paterson Field against Kentucky State on Saturday afternoon.
The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon on Saturday, concluding the series at 1 pm on Sunday afternoon.
Tuskegee (2-11) has dropped their last nine games on the road, all to perennial national powers and to teams that were either ranked nationally, or receiving votes at some point during the season.
The Golden Tigers and Kentucky State have met nine times over the last three years, with Tuskegee holding a 5-4 advantage in the series. The Golden Tigers won all four games played in 2014, winning the games by a combined score 72-8. They also won the match-up between the two teams in the SIAC Tournament on their way to the championship game.
The two teams split last season’s meeting after the initial contest was postponed due to weather. The Golden Tigers won the opener 4-2, before dropping the final game 10-3.
Junior Ricky Green leads the team in both hitting and pitching this season hitting .333 through 13 games and has recorded a 1.93 earned run average in his appearances on the mound.
Freshman Elgin Woodside is second on the team in hitting at .319 with five extra base hits. He leads the team with 10 runs batted in and is tied for the team-lead in homeruns with two. Woodside and fellow freshman Matthew Reed- the reigning SIAC Player of the Week – are tied for the team lead in homeruns, hitting two in his last two games played.
The Golden Tigers will send Joseph Mauldin (0-2) to the mound for game one, followed by Trey Nelson (0-2) in game two and Daniel Croom (1-1) in game three on Sunday.
