AUM opens SSAC play with 13-3 win over Brewton-Parker

MT. VERNON, Ga. (aumathletics.com) — The No. 13 Auburn Montgomery baseball team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play with a 13-3 victory at Brewton-Parker Friday afternoon.

NOTES
• With the win, the Warhawks improved to 13-5 on the year and 1-0 in league play.

• The Barons dropped to 3-18 overall and 0-1 in conference games.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Dalton Kelley finished 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs. He also walked and stole a base. The triple was the sixth of the year for Kelley.

• John-Mark Cosby was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

• Kade Suther (3-1) scattered seven hits and allowed three runs over seven innings of work for the victory. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

• Brandon Pooler had one hit in four at bats, but walked twice, collected a run batted in and scored a run. He also stole a base.

• Donald Sorrow led the Barons at the plate, finishing 3-for-4.

• Grayson Yeomans tossed two scoreless innings of relief for Brewton-Parker. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• AUM scored twice in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. Kelley and Deric Boone tallied RBIs in the first inning, while Cosby and Houston Davenport drove in runs in the second. The Warhawks pounded out six hits and four runs in the two innings of work by Royce Grinaker (0-5).

• Brewton-Parker plated a run in the third inning, before the Warhawks scored three times in the top of the fourth inning to open up a 7-1 advantage. Brandon Davis picked up a RBI in the frame.

• The Barons answered back with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a two-run homer by Kellen Cooney.

• AUM provided the final margin by plating three runs in the fifth and three runs in the eighth.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• AUM turned a pair of double plays in the contest.

• Brewton-Parker committed four errors in the game, while the Warhawks made one.

• The Warhawks stranded nine runners on base, compared to just four for the Barons.

• Five Barons combined to walk eight Warhawks. AUM did not issue a walk in the game.

• AUM played 17 position players in the contest.

UP NEXT

• The Warhawks and Barons will conclude their series Saturday with a doubleheader, beginning at noon.
