Cross Makes Its Way Through Downtown Montgomery Marking Good Friday

Good Friday commemorates the day Jesus was led to the cross and crucified.

It’s an important day for many, including Marinella Lentis who organized this event.

“It’s the greatest act of love ever made. A man who of his own free will decided to die for us, for me, for you and for all. So there’s no greater love than that. We want to remember that and we want people to take even a second in their busy lives to remember that Christ died for them too,” said Lentis.

This is the 8th year the church has taken a cross through Montgomery.

At each stop, everyone joined in singing hymns and following the stages of the cross, from the last supper to the death of Christ.

As the year’s have passed, more and more people have joined in.

“It has grown. We’ve gone from about 50 to about 150 to 200. We had one year when it rained on us and we had probably 30 people but still we had some participation,” said Lentis.

For many of the people out here walking it’s not just about the death of Jesus Christ, but taking his message out into the world.

“I think we’re a witness to this event that happened 2000 years ago and needs to be remembered every year,” said Jim Bickerton.

On this day of reflection, even the children know to look ahead to what will happen Easter morning.

“Remember that Jesus rose again from the dead,” said Parker Dunlap.
