Golden Tigers sweep SIAC weekly baseball honors
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — The Tuskegee University baseball team swept the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball honors this week with Trey Nelson named the Pitcher of the Week and Ricky Green the Player of the Week.
Nelson pitched a complete game in a 9-6 victory over Stillman to open the series, his third consecutive conference victory. The sophomore allowed six runs, only four earned, over seven innings while scattering eight hits. He also walked one and struck out one batter.
Green finished the three-game set with Stillman hitting .571 from the third spot in the lineup and recording an on-base percentage of .750 in three games. The junior first baseman went 4-for-7 at the plate with three walks. He also scored three runs, and recorded a pair of RBI. His best game at the plate came in the opening victory for Tuskegee in which he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. He only recorded one plate appearance in game two as he was walked and was hit by a pitch, and went 1-for-2 in game three when he was walked twice, scored a run and knocked in an run for the Golden Tigers.
Tuskegee (7-17, 5-4) SIAC) returns to action tomorrow against Concordia (Selma) at Paterson Field The doubleheader starts at 12 noon.
