Montgomery’s Finch sweeps SIAC’s weekly softball awards for Tuskegee
ATLANTA, GA (goldentigersports.com) — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) named the weekly winners for softball, and for the second time in three weeks Tuskegee swept the awards – this time from the same player – as Kaylin Finch was named the Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Finch hit.733 in four games last week, collecting 11 hits in 15 plate appearances. She also hit .750 in conference play against Lane College over the weekend. For the week, Finch scored five runs and knocked in another five, as she hit a double and had two homeruns against Lane. She slugged 1.200 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .733. The freshman went 2-for-3 (.667) in game one against West Alabama before sitting out the second game after taking a ball off the leg while pitching. Against Lane, Finch went 4-for-4 (1.000) with three runs scored and three runs batted in on a double and homerun in game one of the series; while in game two, she went 1-for-4 (.250) with a run scored and run batted in. She finished the series hitting 4-for-4 (1.000) with a solo homerun.
Finch finished the week 2-1 on the mound, including winning both of her conference starts. The freshman recorded three complete games and finished with a 3.00 earned run average (3.21 ERA in two conference games). She finished the week allowing 20 hits in 21.0 innings pitched, while allowing 13 runs (seven earned) to score in three starts. The freshman recorded 16 strikeouts in the three games – including 11 in two conference games. Her best game of the week came on the road against Lane as she struck out six batters in game three of the series, working a complete game and allowing just two runs to cross (one earned).
Tuskegee (13-27, 11-4 SIAC) return to action Thursday against sixth-ranked North Alabama at home with first pitch in the doubleheader scheduled for 1 pm.
