THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The weather doesn’t get much better for late April in Alabama, than it will be this weekend. As the slow moving upper-level trough finally slides east of the state, dry air works into the area, and then ridging begins to establish itself, which will make for wonderful weekend weather. Expect plenty of sunshine, warm afternoon temperatures, cool and refreshing nights, and no threat of rain. Highs tomorrow and Sunday will be in the 80s.
THE LAST WEEK OF APRIL: Get ready for the warmest week of weather so far this year for Alabama. The ridge will continue to be the main feature controlling out weather. Each day should feature more sun than clouds, and though a few widely scattered afternoon showers will be possible, we will stay mostly dry. Afternoon highs each day will be well into the 80s, and I would not be surprised if some locations see 90s next week. Nights will be fair and pleasant with most locations around the 60F degree mark. The forecast model output below is a little warm on the temperatures, but you get the general idea that we may have to start using the “H” word in our forecasts…HOT!!!
The main weather story next week will be multiple severe weather days across the Plains from Texas to Iowa. Tuesday looks to be the very active as a widespread severe weather outbreak looks likely in that region of the country. The upper ridge looks to keep that activity to the west of Alabama for much of the week, but it looks that by the end of the week, the ridge weakens enough that we may have to deal with showers and storms in Alabama. Way too early to mention any risk of severe weather for Alabama, but late next week does look to be when our next significant chance of rain returns.
