$390K For Downtown Troy Streetscape Project

The state of Alabama awards the city of Troy with close to $400,000 for their downtown streetscape project.

The federal funds will go towards repairing and extending sidewalks on six different streets around downtown. Landscaping will also be a part of the project.

The city applied for the grant in May.

Portions of the sidewalks have dangerous drop offs. They will be completely replaced making them handicap accessible.

Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said, “It is really going to enhance our downtown. We are going to get about 4 dollars for every one dollar that the city is going to spend. It is going to be about a half a million dollar project. Green spaces, sidewalks, making sidewalks ADA compliant- so it will really enhance what we feel is the heart of our community which is our downtown.”

All plans must be submitted to the state department of transportation for approval. So, the project is not expected to be complete for about one year.
