Â
Parents, alumni, students, and supporters rally together near the now closed Saint Jude Educational Institute.Â
Â
Working to gather donations, but they say more importantly to raise awareness of what this school means to Alabama’s history and the community.Â
Â
Dozens were at the event outside of the Freewill Baptist Church. Supporters say it’s also a way to do something about a decision they played no part in. Some students were also devastated by the news.Â
Â
Tyrique Jones, going into his senior year said, “I hope that see that we really want our school back and that St. Jude is just more than a school for African Americans. It’s a school that can help the community and make a better place for people.”
Â
The state’s Christian Coalition is also joining in on the fight to reopen the school. They plan to present alternatives to closing the school to the archdiocese and also spread the word across the state.Â
