Tuscaloosa, AL – The University of Alabama football team entered its game week schedule and preparations for the season opener against Wisconsin.
Alabama released it’s depth chart Monday with potential starting quarterbacks Jacob Coker, Cooper Bateman, and Alec Morris all separated by a slash. Head coach Nick Saban said he’s confident in all three guys, but is waiting for that one guy to stand out.
“I would like to see someone win the team over, which may not happen until they play,” said Saban.
The Crimson Tide were faced with this same experience last year when Coker battled Blake Sims for the starting job throughout fall camp.
“You look at last year, and you didn’t really know who the starter was going to be going into it and the first couple of games and we didn’t play great as an offense either and that affected everybody. I think towards the end of the season, we all came together, and Blake was in there at the time and it all just came together well, and I think it will be easier this year because we’re a young team, and the buy-in process has been high,” said Center Ryan Kelly.
Saban is not opposed to having two quarterbacks play. “You know, a lot of people have had success playing multiple quarterbacks if they have different style which a couple of our guys do have a different style,” he said.
“They all bring different things to the table, but for me I just try to catch the ball everytime any quarterback throws the ball, so they can gain confidence in me, but I think each guy does a good job,” said tight end O.J. Howard.
Saban did not give a time frame on when they would name a starter.
Monday marked the first of four practices before Alabama heads to Arlington, Texas, to take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the AdvoCare Classic. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. inside AT&T Stadium with the contest airing live on ABC.
