People in Selma gathered to honor the sacrifice of the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

The ceremony was hosted by VFW Post 3016 at Memorial Stadium.

Flowers were laid at the foot of the eternal flame monument and Taps was played in honor of fallen soldiers.

“Its real important. Its in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice that we may be free and have a free country to live in,” said VFW Post 3016 Commander Rayburn Hill.

A county-wide moment of silence was also observed at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, in remembrance of those who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
