Political Analyst Weighs in On Hubbard Trial

We’ve been drawing a lot of attention to the fact that Governor Bentley testified in this case. And that may not even be so much because of what he said or didn’t say, but simply because he was there.
Political Analyst Steve Flowers says the most telling witness so far has been Jim Sumner with the Alabama Ethics Commission.
Flowers says this was huge for the state because, in his testimony he basically said what Hubbard did was illegal and that Hubbard was warned about that.
As for the governor’s testimony, Flowers says it may have only been 20 minutes compared to hours spent on other witnesses like Sumner but Governor Bentley’s appearance could be strategy in the state’s case.
Flowers said, “the aura of the office. The fact that the governor was coming there, but his testimony was only twenty minutes and probably the jurors were impressed that the governor was there and it gave the case in their minds, this is an important case. And again plays into the prosecution’s hand because they are thinking, why is the governor here if this wasn’t somebody doing something wrong.”
