Animal Rescuers from Across the Alabama Fly Dogs to Florida Rescuers for Adoptions

Over 100 dogs may be one step closer to finding their forever homes, thanks to the Bullock County Humane Society and several other rescue groups from across the state.

The groups made efforts Saturday morning to fly the dogs out to receiving rescuers in Orlando, Florida. Once the dogs are there, they will be spayed and neutered to ready for adoption. Their mission is in memory of longtime foster and transport volunteer Farish Simmons. Simmons died of cancer last month. Rescuers say she dedicated most of her life to animal rescue.

“Mrs. Simmons had a huge heart for homeless pets and We have such a huge problem here in Alabama and it’s just awesome to think that we can partner with those states to move some of those animals who otherwise don’t have an option who would be euthanized in our shelters or just sit there for months on end,” says Jodie Battison.

Pilots and Paws, a non profit organization of volunteer pilots were involved in the rescue mission .
