Busy Holiday Weekend on the Roadways Expected

ALEA is gearing up for major traffic on Alabama highways as the holiday weekend begins. They are reminding drivers to be safe.

al_holiday_traffic.jpgAAA is projecting 43 million motorists to be on the roadways over the July 4th holiday weekend.
According to ALEA, traffic fatalities are up significantly this year compared to last. Since January 1st, there have been 308 fatalities. Last year at this time, there were 223.

That’s 85 more fatalities than this time last year.

Sgt. Steve Jarrett says to expect troopers to be out on the roadways to make sure everyone is safe.

“High visibility, laser speed enforcement details, likely be doing some check points to make sure people are following the traffic laws, and not drinking and driving and things of that nature,” said Jarrett.

If you plan to be at the lake or out on the water this weekend, Marine Patrol troopers will also be highly visible on the State’s waterways. They will be checking for life jackets, unsafe vessel operation, and boating under the influence.
