Alabama State University has announced that it will host an anti-crime and anti-violence citywide town hall meeting and block party on Wednesday. The university says the idea is to bring the public and law enforcement together to have a meaningful dialogue.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the corner of Pleasant and West Jeff Davis Avenues. Montgomery’s top law enforcement and community leaders are scheduled to be there to respond to concerns about how best to tackle the issues of crime and policing in Montgomery. There will be free food and drinks.

The event is sponsored by ASU’s National Public Radio station WVAS-FM 90.7 as well as ASU’s Department of Public Safety, ‘That’s My Dog’ Hotdogs, 97.9 Jamz and Buffalo Rock.

ASU says confirmed speakers for this event include Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, Montgomery Co. Sheriff Derrick Cunningham, ASU Police Chief James Graboys and Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley.
