The Montgomery Ballet to Perform “Performance on the Green”

The Montgomery Ballet is proud to announce the revival of Performance on the Green July 29, at the Winton Blount Cultural Park in Montgomery, Alabama. For many years, this free performance was a summer tradition for the River Region.

The Montgomery Ballet is honored to restore this free performance for the public. Founded in 1958, the Montgomery Ballet is the only professional dance company in the city of Montgomery and is one of three in the state of Alabama.

Performance on the Green is choreographed by the Ballet’s Co-Artistic Directors Joseph and Laura Villalobos. Additionally, the performance will premiere choreography by Patric Palkens, a principal dancer with the Cincinnati Ballet. The choreography chosen by the Villalobos and Mr. Palkens was specifically done for the venue, the Blount Cultural Park.

Performance on the Green will feature Montgomery Ballet School students, along with participants of the Ballet’s Summer Intensive program and the professional company. This gives the summer program students an opportunity to perform in the beautiful Blount Cultural Park alongside the professional company and also enables River Region to see the process and end product the Montgomery Ballet can provide.

The performance will provide the River Region a chance to see some of the dancers who will perform in the Ballet’s 2016-2017 season, which begins in September 2016 with Ballet and the Beasts at the Montgomery Zoo.

The performance will be offered on Friday, July 29, 2016, at 8:00 p.m., with our very own, Ellis Eskew, serving as the Master of Ceremonies. The public may begin general seating for the performance at 6:00 p.m. You may bring your own picnic or purchase dinner from Fat Man’s Barbeque. Also on site will be Chiquita’s Cake Creations selling cupcakes.
