Montgomery Ballet’s ‘Performance on the Green’ Returns

A River Region tradition is back in the Capital City...and some would say it's en pointe.

The Montgomery Ballet performed for hundreds of fans on the lawn of Blount Cultural Park Friday evening. The show featured students from the Montgomery Ballet school as well as the ballet’s summer intensive program.
It was choreographed by Patric Palkens, the principle dancer of the Cincinnati Ballet.
The performance gave people the chance to see the dancers taking part in the ballet’s new season, which starts in September.
It also gives the students in the program the chance to dance side by side with the professionals…to see just what it takes to be a member of the Montgomery Ballet.

Co-artistic director Laura Villalobos says, it’s a tradition that needed to return to Montgomery.

“With the ballet being one of the oldest arts organizations in the city we feel that it is important to bring back this to the community. It was listed several years ago as one of the top 10 tourist attractions in the state of Alabama, so there is no reason not to come back to do this,” said Villalobos.
