Pike Road Residents to Honor the Montgomery Co. Sheriff’s Office

pike roadThe Town of Pike Road will host the 2016 National Night Out for its residents, Tuesday night, August 2, at Town Hall. The event will honor Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for all it does for our residents. We will recognize the work they do to keep us safe and secure. Town residents will have the opportunity to meet and thank members of the local law enforcement agency.
The celebration starts at 6:00 p.m. at Pike Road Town Hall (9575 Vaughn Road, Pike Road, AL) and will run until 8:00 p.m. There will be free hot dogs and drinks, which will be served by Pike Road Lions Club members. Those who attend will enjoy live music by Wes Darnell, demonstrations by the MCSO’s K-9 unit and a chance to tour the home security trailer. Plus, Haynes Ambulance Life Flight team plans to make a special appearance, weather permitting.
“The Town of Pike Road is fortunate to have a partnership with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office,” said Town of Pike Road Mayor, Gordon Stone. “This event allows us to say ‘thank you’ to Sheriff Cunningham and his team for their service and commitment to safeguard our town. The daily work of the MCSO deputies is key to preserving our hometown way of life.”
Among the vendors participating will be Home Depot and Furlongs Security Inc. They will demonstrate various safety products and MCSO staff will also be on hand to sign up residents for the Smart911 system. The Smart911 system allows people to create a profile for their family. The profile includes potentially life-saving information that can only be accessed by emergency personnel if you call 911.
“Now, more than ever, it is crucial that communities and law enforcement work together and that is the key reason for National Night Out,” said Sheriff Cunningham. “For us to be effective at our job we must have a dialog with people in the community. These type of events provide a good opportunity for us all to talk with and listen to one another and that’s what I look forward to doing in the Town of Pike Road.”
Sheriff Cunningham will address those in attendance at 6:30, tomorrow night.
Additional activities planned for the night include:
  • A photo booth and games for children.
  • Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department will have the Safety House at the event for fire safety demonstrations.
National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event that is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch.
In 2015, police and community partnerships, citizens, law enforcement agencies, community groups, businesses, youth organizations, local, state and federal officials from 15,278 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide joined forces to celebrate the 32 Annual National Night Out. Nationally, 38.3 million people participated.
