Alabama BOE Interview Finalists for New State Superintendent

EDUCATIONsignThe Alabama Board of Education is interviewing six finalists in the search for a new state school superintendent.

The board scheduled a day of interviews Thursday for the candidates, who are seeking to replace retired state school superintendent Tommy Bice.

Board members will select a new superintendent during a meeting on Aug. 11.

The state superintendent oversees an agency with nearly 900 employees. The finalists include:

  • Stanford University Research Fellow- Williamson Evers
  • Madison School Superintendent-Dee Fowler
  • Jefferson County Superintendent- Craig Pouncey
  • Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education Secretary- Jenna Ross
  • Education Consultant- Michael Sentence
  • Florence City School Superintendent- Janet Womack.
