Siegelman Due Out of Prison in One Year

Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman is due to be released from prison one year from today, but his family and other supporters hope he’ll be let out early, perhaps by a presidential pardon.
Alabama News Network spoke exclusively with Siegelman’s son Joseph this morning, and he said his Dad is keeping
his spirits up, and that the family is hopeful for an earlier release than the one scheduled.
Don Siegelman was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, but the start of that time was put off as he appealed his conviction. He’s now set to be released on August 8th, 2017.
Supporters are helping to fund a documentary about the Siegelman case.
Some 100 former State Attorneys General have signed a letter against the charges against the former governor and his conviction. But appeals courts have upheld his conviction.
