Students in Wilcox County were back in class today for the first day of school.

School officials say there are big plans in the works to help improve student achievement this year.

They say advanced placement and honors courses are now available from 7th grade all the way through high school.

They say the school district is also offering night classes for older students and people in the community.

“Its all about the students first of all but its embracing the community along the way,” said Superintendent Dr. Andre Saulsberry.

Some night classes include: Welding, Masonry, Microsoft Office and Nursing.
