Biscuits blank Lookouts 2-0 on getaway day
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (biscuitsbaseball.com) -The Biscuits got out of Chattanooga on a high note Sunday afternoon, pulling within a game of their North Division rivals with a crucial 2-0 win at AT&T Field.
Hunter Wood (5-2) was on the mound for Montgomery, making just his second start since breaking his thumb on June 23, and the right-hander was sensational twirling five shutout innings and allowing just one hit while tallying six strikeouts en route to his fifth victory of the season.
Wood got all the run support he would need in the second thanks to a Justin Williams RBI-single off Chattanooga starter Felix Jorge (1-4), and Armando Araiza would double that lead in the fourth with an RBI-single of his own to make it 2-0 Biscuits for good.
Yonny Chirinos piggybacked off Wood out of the bullpen, and hurled three shutout innings of relief, surrendering just a hit to Zack Granite before Jaye Chapman slammed the door in the ninth to secure his sixth Montgomery save and a Biscuit win to put the team just a game behind Chattanooga in the Wild Card standings with 15 games to play.
The Biscuits will head back to Montgomery and open up a five-game series with the Birmingham Barons beginning on Monday with Chase Whitely (1-0) taking on Nolan Sanburn (1-4) at 7:05 PM at Riverwalk Stadium.
